Back 2 School Program
New Book bags and school supplies needed!!!
Please consider donating new book bags and school supplies at your
local Kroger store between July 17th and July 31st or please email kate@childrn.org if you are interested in hosting a private
collection for your company, neighborhood, church, or civic/social club.
More than 3,900 homeless children will live in 134 group homes and shelters throughout 20 metro-Atlanta counties during the 2011/2012 school year, and most of these kids will arrive with little more than a bag of clothes. For a homeless child entering a new school, surrounded by new kids and new teachers, coming in that first day without a book bag or school supplies serves as a reminder of how they are different and how they don’t fit in.
Children's
Restoration Network's annual Back 2 School Program seeks to provide all these homeless children in shelters and group homes with NEW
book bags and all the necessary school supplies. This year, CRN will invite the 2,500 homeless children that live in metro-Atlanta’s
group homes and shelters on any given night to our Back 2 School Day of Readiness on August 7th at Atlanta Mission’s “My Sister’s
House. In addition to providing these kids with new, full book bags, the Back 2 School Day of Readiness will provide these kids
with free hearing and vision screenings, sports physicals, dental exams, and haircuts.
There will also be a lot of fun activities at the Back 2 School Day of Readiness as we will provide them with a barbecue buffet, have a DJ playing dance hits, have a popcorn and sno-cone machine running, and have a station where the kids will be able to do face-painting or bead-making. CRN will give the extra book bags and school supplies to the shelter and group home directors so that each new child that enters a shelter or group home during the school year will have a book bag waiting for them.
CRN will be collecting new book bags and school supplies throughout the month of July. We will sort the supplies and pack the book bags on August 5th & 6th, location TBD. Our Back 2 School Day of Readiness will take place on August 7th at “My Sister’s House, located at 921 Howell Mill Rd, Atlanta, 30318.
Back 2 School Collections
We’re hoping 2011 will be our best year ever for the Back 2 School Program, but we need all the help we can
get to reach our goal for this year’s collection: 3,900 NEW book bags filled with school supplies.
WSB-TV is a major Partner
in our Back 2 School program, and this year, all metro-Atlanta Kroger Supermarkets, a Family 2 Family Sponsor, will be serving
as public drop-off sites for the Back 2 School program. If you would like to donate any new book bags or school supplies, please
drop them off at your local Kroger between July 17th and July 31st or drop them by CRN’s office during business hours.
We are also
asking individuals, neighborhoods, companies, churches, and civic/social clubs to host private collections anytime between July 1st and
August 1st. If you would like to host your own collection, please email kate@childrn.org or call the office at (770) 649-7117.
Supplies
needed include:
NEW BOOK BAGS, wide and college ruled notebook paper, spiral notebooks, 3 ring binders, pens, calculators, markers,
scissors, rulers, crayons, file folders, glue, and any other supplies necessary for school.
Volunteering
We need a lot of
help picking up school supplies from Kroger stores and bringing them to CRN’s office. If you would like to be a Site Coordinator
for a Kroger near you, please email kate@childrn.org or CLICK HERE for a list of Kroger stores in your area.
We
need volunteers to help sort school supplies and pack book bags on August 5th & 6th between 10 am and 4:30 pm. We will
be doing this at 8767 Roswell Rd. in Sandy Springs, in the North River Shopping Center. Looking at the center from the street it is
the last storefront on right. Our Back 2 School Day of Readiness will be held at “My Sister’s House” from between 2 pm and 6
pm on August 7th. Volunteers are needed between Noon and 6:30 pm. The address is 921 Howell Mill Rd. Atlanta, 30318.
