L.E.A.P.
(Career Preparation) Workshops
The next LEAP (Career Preparation) workshop is scheduled for January 14th at
"My Sister's House", in Atlanta. We will be holding these workshops on the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of every month for
the foreseeable future. If you have HR or business experience, you can help with these workshops. If you would like to be contacted about
helping with future workshops, please email jim.cox@childrn.org
Upcoming dates: January 14th & 28th, February 11th & 25th
The format for the workshops have been changed.
Instead of twice-yearly, large workshops, we are going to do two a month with no more than 12 ladies at a time, The times will be
from 8am till noon. There will be two rooms, one devoted to resume creation and the other with interview skills. So while half the
women are working on their resumes the other half will be doing interview skills. Then around 10am the ladies will switch rooms. The
idea is to have 4 or 5 HR people working on resume creation and two volunteers working on interview skills.
We
have renamed the Career Preparation Workshop, LEAP. The acronym reflects the results of successful workshops: Leadership, Employment,Achievement, and ultimately, Prosperity. These workshops help ladies and older teens, create or update resumes, and ensure that they
look professional. As most of us know a professional-looking resume is the first step in getting in the door for an interview. They
also give tips on what to do if you have a spotty employment history or have been in trouble with the law. Most of us can remember
the little butterflies flitting around our stomachs, as we prepared to begin an interview. These practice sessions with Human Resource
professionals take some of the mystery and trepidation out of preparing for, and during the interview process.
During the workshops
we also set up free e-mail accounts and leave the ladies with both hard copies of their resumes and a flash drive with their
resume on it so they can update it as needed.
