Our LEAP (Leadership, Employment, Achievement and Prosperity) Career Preparation Workshops help homeless mothers and older teens create resumes, refine interview skills, and learn about job search techniques in hopes of breaking the cycle of homelessness.
CRN hosts career workshops to help connect Human Resource and business professionals volunteers with homeless mothers and teenagers to give participants the advice and practice they need to develop their resumes as well as gain confidence and experience for future interviews. Without proper guidance, it can be difficult to make an effective resume or perform well in an interview.
During the workshops, participants also set up email accounts and receive both hard copies and electronic copies of their resumes to update as needed. In addition, our “Mentor Match” component pairs volunteers with participants to continue corresponding after the workshop and throughout their job search so that volunteers can continue to guide and advise participants as they search for stable employment.
LEAP Workshops are on Saturday mornings at four different homeless shelters located in downtown Atlanta. The workshops last 3-4 hours with an average of 10-15 homeless mothers/teens seeking assistance. As of fall 2015, we have had an 89% success rate with homeless mothers and teens finding independent housing and employment within three months.
At some of our LEAP Workshops, there is a need for childcare volunteers to watch over a group of kids, enabling their mothers to give their undivided attention to the presenters. Childcare volunteers must be at least 18 years or older and willing to submit a background check.
CRN also offers specialized workshops for businesses or civic groups that would like to do a career workshop during business hours. We are willing to work with your schedule to set up an exclusive LEAP Workshop just for your group.
